Beef Jerky 101
I own a Nesco FD-60 Dehydrator that i purchased at Wal-Mart.
This Unit is Ideal for making Beef Jerky, I have made about 10 LBS Of jerky so far. Most have been Using the "Jerky Works" Jerky Gun, with this you can make strips or sticks.
It also includes some pre mixed spice packs.
All but one of my beef jerky batches to this point have been kits with one home brewed batch, not as good as the others unfortunately. I have also tried some apples, Oranges, Bananas and Apples Sauce to make Fruit roll up sheets. I wanted to puree some Watermelon and dry it this year, but never got around to it.
I'm Now up to about 8 attempts at a homebrewed batch, still not exactly what i would like it to be, you can find a link to the recipes below.
Still seems to be missing something or need more or less of something for that perfect taste.
Also I will be purchasing a larger jerky gun sometime soon.
The one that uses with the Nesco jerky kit only holds about 1/3 pound of meat. I'm looking to upgrade to one that can hold around 1-1 1/2 lbs.
This will save time and mess in making my jerky.
Extra trays will help you make larger bathes of jerky, i Currently have 8 trays and looking to invest in two more.
Hoping to make some dried fruits this weekend or the next will let you know any tricks i might learn to make things easier in the process.
Ive found the easiest way to make beef jerky is with the Jerky gun.
First Prepare your marinate and mix with Jerky
Refrigerate overnight or 24 HRS
Make jerky strips or sticks evenly spacing in Dehydrator.
After about one hour towel of surface oil on jerky.
Jerky has taken me around 4-6 hrs
After this remove jerky onto Paper towels to absorb oils till cooled
Package Jerky and store in Fridge.
