Day Trip – No. 9 Mine

Saturday We Went to the No. 9 Mine & Museum a unique Anthracite Mine Tour and Museum.

unfortunately i do not have any pictures to share about 15 minutes into the trip to Lansford i realized their was a good chance that i did not put a memory card in with the camera, and sure enough i was correct, so rather then wasting a good half hour plus we continued on .

The Museum is full of Mining Tools and Equipment used through the Ages of the Mine also a lot of old Pictures that were very interesting. don’t Remember How far in you actually go but it is a pretty good distance at that point i believe you are 250 feet bellow the ground surface but still above the water line. The Total tour Takes about 50 Minutes give or take.

Interesting to think what it was like back a hundred plus years ago without the Technology we have today and what was accomplished. I would say this is a good road trip for anyone with some interest.

Link to another site with photos from inside mine.

We then headed down to Jim Thorpe and Rummaged through a couple of different stores then we had a late Lunch at PepperJacks Tex-Mex Grill, A great place to stop for a bite to eat while in town.

Next time we will remember the Camera and probably stop at Flagstaff and the Asa Packer mansion.

Do they think we are that Stupid?

After months of paying Verizon Dsl a 2.75 FUSF Fee that they lobbied was unfair and that they should not have to pay towards this and force their costumers to pay to cover their cost.
Now get this the FCC has ruled that they do not have to pay a Federal Universal Service charge and guess what Verizon does they make up a new fee called  a “Supplier Surcharge” with a cost of 2.70 a month.

I guess they lived up to the part that they did not feel they should pay anything extra but not the part of their costumers not paying extra :

Hers the text of their letter they sent via email:

Dear Valued Verizon Online Customer,

Effective August 14, 2006, Verizon Online will stop charging the FUSF (Federal Universal Ser vice Fund) recovery fee. We will stop being assessed the fee by our DSL network suppliers. Therefore, we will no longer be recovering this fee from our customers. The impact of the FUSF fee is as follows: for customers of Verizon Online with service up to 768Kbps, the fee eliminated is $1.25 a month; for customers of Verizon Online with service up to 1.5 Mbps or 3Mbps, the fee eliminated is $2.83 a month (based on current FUSF surcharge amounts).  On your bill that includes charges for August 14, 2006 you will see either a partial FUSF Recovery Fee or no FUSF line item at all, depending on your bill cycle.

Starting August 26, 2006, Verizon Online will begin charging a Supplier Surcharge for all new DSL customers, existing customers with a DSL monthly or bundle package, and existing DSL annual plan customers at the time their current annual plan expires.  This surcharge is not a government imposed fee or a tax; however, it is intended to help offset costs we incur from our network supplier in providing Verizon Online DSL service. The Supplier Surcharge will initially be set at $1.20 a month for Verizon Online DSL customers with service up to 768Kbps and $2.70 per month for customers with DSL service at higher speeds.

On balance your total bill will remain about the same as it has been or slightly lower.
For more information, see the Announcement in the Help section of Verizon Central, located at http://central.verizon.net

We regret the need to add this Supplier Surcharge, but we thank you for choosing high speed Verizon Online DSL. We appreciate and value your business.

Sincerely,

Verizon Online

In doing some online research it looks like the Fcc is looking into these fees, along with verizon a couple other carriers had added like fees. BellSouth Corp., the No. 3 U.S. local telephone company, on Friday said it will immediately drop a $2.97 monthly fee for its high-speed Internet service after U.S. communications regulators threatened to question the charge.

Electric Project

BreadBoard
I was surfing the Web and Saw this Neat project, What to do with Blue Bawls , thought it would be neat to try. So i laid out the components on the Breadboard and worked around to find the correct resistor for the photo-cell to work properly.
After about a Half hour of figuring out voltage and and ohms and all that neat stuff i got it to work correctly. Now all i have to do is try to wire one into a bawls bottle. Actually will be trying this once my shipment of LED’s comes in that i ordered on Ebay.
The Girlfriend is not as impressed she still wants to know what else it can do other then light up and turn off ! Oh well she still says it’s neat.
Will post more photos on my website once it finished!!

Wireless Router

On Sunday I purchased a wireless router to Enable Wendy’s Laptop to have Internet access from any point in the house. After Purchasing the Router and a Pc card it was time to install them.

Push Button Setup feature that makes wireless Connection secure and Simple, heck how hard could that be?

Well lets see after installing the software on both computers i was able to connect ports but unable to have a Internet connection on the laptop. After several different attempts and some reading i was still not winning.

I went on the Linksys website and started chatting with a tech rep, who after about ten minutes was disconnected with !!!!

OK so i tried a couple more ideas and well things got even better now the screen the logs into the Routers Properties was in a foreign language , trust me this really makes things tough.

Now it was time to call Linksys for some real tech help, the Agent asked me my problems then diagnosed them to make sure i did everything right and was really telling her the truth of my problem, with this she had me log onto the router page that i told her was in a different language then English she asked me to click on the third tab and tell her what it said.

OK maybe she missed something it was not in English and i did not speak or read the language that it was in. After several explanations of this that i had no idea what it said she had me try to reset the modem back to factory specs.

Yeah you guessed it that also failed. She then asked me when i purchased the Router, i told her i had just purchased it today.

SHE said” THAT WAS GOOD, I could return it”

Wow what great tech support i never thought of that@@@@.

After hanging up with her, i re-installed the software, and guess what i was able to change the language back to English , so it was off to calling tech support Again.

After a good half hour on the phone and doing a lot of things that im not even sure what i really did it was up and running .

Total time , I would say a good 3+ hours, and a lot of pushes of  buttons.
